The software download is about 5.5Mb in size. The size of the data downloaded during the installation process is approximately 3.0Mb in size. The sample test software requires that the language settings on your Internet Explorer browser and Windows Operating System be English. The CPA Exam Sample Test can only be launched from the CPA Exam web site. While some software components are installed on your computer in order to run the sample test, an application is not installed. Just like any installation, the components installed during the viewer setup can be removed by going to the Windows Control Panel, selecting "Add or Remove Programs..." and selecting "AICPA Viewer" or “SampleTestInstall” and clicking "Change/Remove." If you installed components prior to the release of the July 1, 2008 Sample Test, please follow the uninstall directions found in this link. The CPA Exam Sample Test requires the installation of custom software in order to accurately recreate the experience of taking the Computerized Uniform CPA Exam. The CPA Exam Sample Test requires you to enable cookies in your browser. Below are instructions for enabling cookies in Internet Explorer.
In order to improve speed, the exam is downloaded as you progress through the exam. In addition, the Codes and Standards in the simulation require an internet connection in order to search for resources. The CPA Exam Sample Test Launcher checks your internet bandwidth speed by requesting a known file from the cpa-exam server. If the time for that file to download is too long, your internet connection speed may be too slow to properly experience the CPA Sample Exam. Searching the standards and codes can require a significant amount of network bandwidth. If you feel that your connection should be good enough, try again. It could be that temporary network congestion slowed the file transfer during the bandwidth test. If you continue to be unsuccessful, we suggest you try another computer with a faster internet connection. Sometimes the exam launches but does come to the front of your windows. You may need to find the test in your taskbar or use Alt-Tab in order to move to the test. The Sample Test can be reviewed in a few minutes with a good internet connection. However, in order to complete the multiple-choice questions and answer then entire simulation, allow from 30 to 60 minutes. The CPA Exam tutorial provides instruction and a presentation about the CPA Exam, how it works, and what is required of the candidate. The Sample Test allows a candidate to actually use the software and tools that will be available to the candidate during the exam. The AICPA recommends that a studying candidate first review the tutorial and then use the sample test. The combination of these tools will provide the candidate with a good understanding of the tools and techniques required by the computerized CPA Exam. First, make sure that you meet the minimum requirements. Once all previous instances of the sample test are removed, reinstall by following the Sample Test Installation Instructions.
